    Chongqing Mayor Wins Election

    The acting mayor of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, Huang Qifan, became the elected new mayor January 26

    Before Huang moved to Chongqing as vice governor in 2001, he worked in Shanghai Municipality as vice secretary-general for seven years since 1994. Last December, Huang was appointed as Chongqing's acting mayor, taking the place of former governor Wang Hongju, who retired from office.
     
    When his election was announced at the third municipal People's Congress, Huang, 58, expressed gratitude to representatives that supported his candidacy.
