Twelve were killed by an explosion at a plastics factory in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province at around 10 am on July 28, and over 300 people were injured, according to Xinhua News Agency. At least 100 people were seriously injured.
An initial investigation showed that a propylene leak at a construction site triggered the blast. Firefighters are still working to extinguish the blaze in the factory building.
Buildings and vehicles within a 100-meter radius around the factory were seriously damaged. The explosion also injured several passengers on a bus traveling in the vicinity.
According to local residents, a tremor was felt and many believed it was the start of an earthquake. Many fled from buildings after hearing a loud noise. The number of casualties may rise within the development of the incident.
