At Foxconn's Shenzhen plant, 20,000 Foxconn workers gathered for a parade on August 18. The campaign was organized by Foxconn's union, with the theme, "To Cherish Life, to Love Families." This year, 13 workers jumped from buildings at the Foxconn plant in Shenzhen, leaving 10 dead and injuring 3 others. All of the victims were migrant workers aged between 18 and 24 years old. They worked and lived inside the heavily-guarded factory complex.Foxconn's suicide cases have received a tremendous amount of public attention and criticism. For years, Foxconn planned to gradually move its production capacities from southern coastal cities to less-developed areas in Central and Northern China, in an aim to reduce costs. This year's spate of suicides at Foxconn's Shenzhen plant prompted the company to speed up relocation plans.
