A short-haul passenger plane carrying 96 people on board crashed during landing near the Yichun airport in Heilongjiang Province on the evening of August 24, killing 42. Of the 91 passengers, five children were on board. Several officials from the provincial Development and Reform Commission and 18 officials from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security were also aboard, en route to attend conferences in the city of Yichun. Seven passengers have been hospitalized under critical condition, including the undersecretary Sun Baoshu from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Technicians from Embraer, the world's largest maker of regional jets, flew to China to investigate the crash on August 24. Henan Airlines is a small regional carrier controlled by Shenzhen Airlines.
