From the Tower of Babel to Book from the Ground
The story of the Tower of Babel is well known. When God created the world, we are told in Genesis (2:19-20), he gifted it with one pure, exact and simple language. This "Primitive Language" was spoken by all the descendants of Adam, meaning the entire human race. After a time, however, humans became excessively proud. Hubris led them to build the Tower of Babel, with its top thrusting through the heavens, and God became angry at their presumptuousness. As punishment, he scattered them to the ends of the earth and "confused" their languages so they could no longer understand one another. (We can all thank the proud people of Babel for the years of our lives lost to language study.)
