WHO Must Allow Wider Debate on Dealing With Worldwide Smoking Problem
The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts there will be 1 billion smokers worldwide by 2025 — a total that's about the same as today's except for the fact that tobacco consumption is falling in the West and rising in the East, especially in China.
China, which has ratified the WHO Convention on Tobacco Control, will be an important player in the next round of tobacco control talks. The first step in that round, however, will revolve around the election of the WHO's next director-general.
