VISUAL DIRECTOR |

Caixin Media is looking for a Visual Director to oversee art direction and develop the visual identity of its three major titles, Caixin Century and China Reform in Chinese, and Caixin - China Economics & Finance in English. |
|
JOB SUMMARY: |
|
The Visual Director will work to develop the established visual identity of the magazine and all associated products and platforms (including mobile side). He or she will be instrumental in the continued development of magazine, working with the Editor-in-Chief to develop all individual products. The Visual Director will also be responsible for the regular operations of the magazine, as well as management and development of the art team. |
|
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: |
|
- Art directing and managing production of Caixin's main titles and their related products (mobile, iPad, etc.) during the regular weekly runs. Involves communicating with editors on how to interpret stories visually, overseeing and improving layouts, producing cover design, and ensuring quality of final product. |
|
- Providing creative input for new projects, or improvements on existing products, especially with regard to visual identity. |
|
- Developing and monitoring the house style and use of product logos, to maintain consistency across the brand. |
|
- Defining design and production standards. |
|
- Managing design team, including developing and assessing current staff, or recruiting new staff as necessary. |
|
- Recommending freelance designers, photographers and illustrators, and setting policies for working with them. |
|
JOB REQUIREMENTS: |
|
- Must have significant experience in heading or leading an editorial design department of a news magazine. |
|
- Must have experience with visual identity and branding design, familiar with bridging editorial and business requirements. |
|
- Must have experience working with multiple products simultaneously, and have working knowledge of different editorial platforms (mobile, tablets, web etc.). |
|
- Must be very hands-on with both production and design. |
|
- Must be a leader. Must work well with a local staff, be able to motivate and train them, and build and improve the team as a whole. |

The research assistant must: |

- be a mandarin native speaker |
